Wracking Your Brains Out

A colleague of mine sent me this “IQ test” a while back. I’ve spent numerous hours trying to get everyone to cross the river within the constraints given in this test. I finally got it after several days. How long do you think it will take you to get everyone across the river?

Here are the guidelines:

1. Only 2 people can be on the raft at one time.
2. The father can not be with the daughters without the mother’s presence.
3. The mother can not be with the sons without the father’s presence.
4. The thief must be with the police.
5. Only the Father, Mother, and Police can drive the boat.
